Claudia Barahona-Fuentes is Associate Professor of Maritime Education and Training (MET) at the Barcelona School of Nautical Studies (FNB), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). She has more than 25 years of teaching experience, teaching English for Specific Purposes, more specifically, Maritime English, Maritime Communications, Ship and Cargo Documentation and Professional Communication at both bachelor’s and master's level. She also participates as a teacher trainer in courses on gender mainstreaming in teaching and English Medium Instruction (EMI) for university lecturers.
Her research interests encompass the incorporation of the gender perspective in Maritime Education and Training (MET) and the role of women in the maritime sector. She holds a PhD in Gender Mainstreaming in MET from the UPC (2023). She is also a member of the UPC research group SOCSTEM, which aims to promote the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines from their social side. In 2024, she received the UPC University Teaching Quality Award for coordinating participatory action research to mainstream gender in MET at FNB. At present, she is a member of the UPC Commission for Gender Equality.
